This is the ultimate Australia gap year programme training you to qualify as a salty sea dog, and work on boats all over the world. After this 23 day internship you have exceptionally good chances of being paid up to $500 a week too!
The ultimate gap year job...The Xtreme Gap Sailing academy, is a fully accredited Yachting Australia training centre, and has been running for over 10 years, training crew and yachting qualifications. Located in the Whitsundays, the jewel in the crown of Australia's East coast natural attractions. This is your opportunity to enrol the 23 day Australia gap year internship which will see you qualify on a "competent crew course" with an international Yachting certificate. Once qualified you can earn up to $500 a week to spend your days and nights sailing in one of the worlds most beautiful marine parks, and living on multi million pound yachts.

All of the different courses start in Airlie Beach’s Abel Point Marina. Where you will receive a comprehensive orientation and safety briefing prior to heading out into the tropical waters for you training. The course exists of 4 components, this is for novices (experience not required)
1. Introduction sailing course 3 days 2 nights Euro 459
2. Competent Crew Course (YA) / International Crew Certificate (IYT) 6 days 5 nights Euro 899
3. International Bareboat Watch keeper (Intermediate) 6 days 5 nights Euro 1179 This is a step up from Competent/International Crew
4. International Bareboat Captain 23 days 23 nights (in total) Euro 1659
This certificate allows you to command your own small vessel and is recognised internationally.FYI: The International Crew Certificate (IYT) requires a local payment of AUD$100, not included in the price.

Finding work after the course
For those sitting the 23 day course, you will be set up with an interview upon successful completion of the course. Although employment is not guaranteed, there is an exceptional acceptance rate to join the crew of boats doing charter work in the Whitsundays. The job typically includes most accommodation and food, and you can be paid up to $500 a week. Imagine spending your time cruising one of the worlds most beautiful locations and have no living expenses and getting paid! May gap year students, end up working for a few months, saving up a boat load of cash and then travelling further.
