My Surf Trip Australia
I went on the surf trip march 2011 and was very pleasantly surprised by everything it had to offer. Xtreme Gap recommended a hostel in Sydney before my early start on Monday morning at 6.15!! The pickup was just in front of the hostel, a very nice hostel I have to say!
After a long drive which was not boring for one sec. First a snooze, then everyone introduced him/her selves and then some great surfing videos were played in the bus.
When we arrived at the first surf camp (you will visit two) we got greeted by Kim, he was the head instructor and very much a n Australian surf dude. Big Ozzie accent, totally relaxed, great fun and an amazing surfer!
The accommodation was simple but very nice and the setting stunning. Just a few hundred meters through stunning dunes you walked with your surf board to the sea! Wow!!!!
There were also hammocks to chill out on, and a camp fire area and a kind of lounge inside where we all watched the pictures of a day of surfing together, very funny!
The surfing at the first camp was perfect for beginners, also because there was no other accommodation around; we almost had the whole beach to our selves! The lessons were very good! Although the group was quite big, there were many instructors around to help us out. And if you took a bit of a rest on the beach it was great to see the others making progress.
Also almost all instructors compete professionally, so they know what they are talking about.
The food was absolutely delicious, and there was plenty off. Good because you use quite a bit of energy surfing. Every meal was different and even if you are not a meat eater there is plenty to pick from! Lots of veggies and fruits and pasta and rice and beans and....
In the evenings we played games, everyone bought some booze on the way to the surf camp so we had 2 really fun nights... We stayed up till late and even danced around the camp fire.
After 2 nights we moved on from this amazing place to the next surf camp. Totally different. More people, as here also the instructor courses take place. So More accommodation, more people, but the same kind off class. Very good instructors, good food, clean rooms and lots of fun. Every day surfing is definitely a good and healthy life style and this trip was very good for making friends. Some of the friends I made went home, some travelled onwards and I met lost of them again further on the east coast.
I have seen surf camps being advertised for less, but I never had such a great time, and I am positive I got what I paid for!!

Had a great time here! If you get chance to do the Oz party bus, do it! Its a great way to meet people staying in the hostel and learn where to go for a drink. The little organised tours and stuff are really good. staff are really friendly and helpful. If there was a Wake Up in every city here in Aus, I would no doubt stay in them. Thanks every1. x x
