Itinerary
This trip is a modular by the week experience involving the following flexible activities:
First week introduction
This weeks is made up of a comprehensive inductions, dos and donts and city tours, language lessons and a history of Sri Lanka. This week is a fascinating time to get to know the rest of the group. This last from Monday to Friday and the weekend is free for you to explore at your leisure.
-Monday
An introduction to the programme and an explanation of the week’s activities. We will do a excursion around the town (Kandy) and have a nice welcome lunch there. In the evening there os a show lined up fro you, a traditional performance of Kandyan dancers. Dinner is back at the guest house.
-Tuesday
After breakfast, we will have a session on Sri Lankan culture, and some guides on the dos and don’t’s in the Sri Lankan society. In the afternoon, we will visit a local temple and the rest of the evening would be free
-Wednesday
We start of the day with your first language lesions and later a session on Sri Lankan religion and Mythology. The evening would be free.
-Thursday
Today we practise the language bit more, we have a session on religion and an introduction into Buddhism. In the afternoon and we have a session on cultural shock and women travellers. In the evening, we will visit a Sri Lankan host family and have dinner with them.
-Friday
We will start the day with language sessions and after that we visit to the famous Temple of the Tooth and have lunch in town. In the afternoon we visit a local Hindu temple and head back in the evening.
-Saturday and Sunday
Some more language and culture and cooking lessons...now you are ready for your adventure week!!
Adventure Week (on selected project)
You can choose between, an Elephant project (most popular), the trekking week, Cultural week or the Body and mind (yoga) week. These are all based in Kandy.
Elephant week

The hours are from 08.00 am- 12.00 noon and after lunch untill 05.00 pm. And in the weekend you are off! What will you be doing to help?

Cleaning work in elephant enclosures

Cleaning of the Garden and assisting in landscape work

Assistance in enclosure arrangements

Assistance in behavioral enrichment programmes

You will stay with local homestays or in a guest house in the case of larger groups. Homestays are an effective way of culturally immersing oneself in the local culture.
Certificate
A certificate will be issued at the end of your week!
Trekking week
- Monday
The Day will start early with a short introduction into the weeks activities. We will then have a quick breakfast and proceed to Sigiriya Rock. After lunch we will go for a safari the Minneriya National Park. We will stay overnight at a local guesthouse in Sigiriya.f the moment, to improve the achievements in a long-term view.
- Tuesday
After Breakfast, we will visit the “Rose Stone Garden” for trekking and we will return back to Kandy in the evening.
- Wednesday
We will start the day early with a trek to Hantana Mountain and spend the rest of the day in the beautiful and serene vicinity of the mountain.
- Thursday
After Breakfast, we will trek to Bible Rock and spend the day there. We will return back to Kandy in the evening.
- Friday
After Breakfast, we will visit the Royal Botanical gardens.
- Weekends
We will have an evaluation and some group discussions. The rest of the weekend will be free.
Body and Mind week
The Daily Schedule is:
- The mornings start early with the Sunrise and followed with a guided Meditation session, followed by a Yoga Lesson.
- The afternoons will have sessions on Ayurveda learning and an Ayurveda detox treatment. The evening will also have a guided Meditation session and breathing techniques.
1. Beginners:
They will be taught Surya Namaskar, commonly known as Sun Salutation or Sun Vitilation. This contains 12 consecutive Asanas. It is the only Asana which is done consecutively and gives flexibility to the body making the students fit to do second stage Yogasana.
2. Second Stage:
Students who practised the Surya Namaskar properly will be taught several more Asanas or postures (maybe 15 depending on the student).
3. Advanced Stage:
Students completing the second stage will be taught further Asanas.
4. Pranayama – Yogic Breathing:
Those who have completed the advanced stage, can enter the interesting field of breathing. Various techniques of breathing to cool the body, heat the body, breathing for concentration, and breathing for cleaning the body from toxic air will be taught.
Turtle Conservation week!
During this part of the programme you will stay with local hosts all meals will be provided. After this week is up you will really have an appreciation for the real Sri Lanka.
You will learn all about the following on the turtle week:
Collecting of Eggs Identifying different kinds of Turtles Hatching of eggs How to care for Turtles You will also be involved with feeding the turtles, cleaning of turtle tanks and then (in season) probably the most rewarding experience, releasing the baby turtles back to the ocean.
You will participate in the turtle conservation for 5 days, with the weekend off giving you time to relax and pack your stuff for the beach week!
Working hours will be 06.00am to 05.00 pm.
Group Sizes: There is a maximum of 15 people at one time so get your bookings in early, as this is understandably a very popular project.
Beach week
Chill, chill chill!
This is based about 90 kilometres from Colombo, it is an untouched beautiful location. Apart for the beaches you will be taken to local sites of interest including a mask factory and Asias longest Buddha statue.
